Composer, Author and Performer
of Song and Romance Cycles and the Requiem,

to lyrics by the famous Russian poet

Anna Akhmatova

[Zlata Razdolina]

I was lucky to live in the same places - St. Petersburg/Leningrad and its suburbs Pavlovsk and Tsarskoye Selo - to walk in the same streets, to love the same autumn leaves and to perform concerts in the same halls in which Anna Akhmatova lived and performed, and to see everything, as through her eyes.

Akhmatova for me is the symbol of the Great Russian Poetry, full with its dramatic, romantic, lyrical and magical nature - it is part of my heart, my creation and my life.

I have composed more than 100 songs and romances to Akhmatova's artistic works.

The summit of my career in Russia were the Laureate awards I received for my musical setting of Anna Akhmatova's poem "Requiem" in the national competitions in Moscow, 1988 and in Leningrad, 1989.

I was chosen to perform my composition "Requiem" during the Anna Akhmatova centennial in 1989 at the Kremlin, Moscow. The "Requiem" written for symphony orchestra, choir and soloists, was later performed in Finland, Sweden, the Czech Republic, the USA and Israel.

I perform concerts in the Russian language, in which I relate Akhmatova's biography and the background to her song writing, in addition to performing the songs and romances which I have composed after her lyrics.

Translations of all Akhmatova's poetry are available in English and some in French, Hebrew and other languages.

I present here my new CD with some of my compositions to Akhmatova's lyrics. This CD also includes my compositions to romances written and dedicated to Anna Akmatova by Nikolai Gumilyov - another Great Russian poet and her first husband.
